Business Operations at Shelter Clothing

Part time contract position

This is a newly created role to support the maternity leave of the Owner of Shelter Clothing. In her absence, this role will be vital to keeping the goals and vision of Shelter moving forward. The ideal candidate will bring a background of business operations and creativity to the Shelter Studio. The responsibilities of this role are to strengthen our social media presence and support the organization and daily operations of the business. You will step into this  role and ensure the continued success and growth of the business, allowing the owner to take a step back. 

This is not a remote position, our studio is located at 279 D Puntledge Road in Courtney, B.C. and we are looking for someone to be a regular presence in the studio as a stand in leader. If you are interested in temporarily relocating to Courtenay, we encourage you to apply! 

This position would be part time to start, with the possibility of extended hours and a more long term position for the right fit. 

The role: 

In Business Operations at Shelter, you will take on a variety of strategic, analytical and operational projects to drive growth for the business. You will lead projects from end to end- from planning and analysis to working cross functionally on implementation. This is an ideal role for someone who wants to work as a high impact contributor that also enjoys leading a team. A strong toolbox for collaboration is a must in this role.  The ideal candidate is extremely adaptable to the fast paced and ever changing environment of slow fashion and has a deep understanding of it. Ability to make informed decisions on the fly is a must. This role is a minimum commitment of 25 hours per week, with a starting pay of $25/hour. 

  • You will oversee daily operations at the studio in Courtenay, BC. This includes product launches, photoshoots, social media content creation, wholesale operations, brand partnerships and more. 
  • Providing leadership & guidance to other team members including studio assistant + production manager
  • Creating tactical plans that are aligned with company goals and drive them forward
  • Collaborate with cross functional partners to build and maintain impactful relationships for the business
  • Overseeing the success of our ecommerce +  store operations 
  • Lead cross functional strategic initiatives that move the company metrics forward in terms of sales, operations, branding and marketing.
  • Identify issues and translate data into impactful insights
  • Support Shelter as we scale and grow
  • Develop effective and scalable operational processes and fill operational gaps

Who You Are: 

  • 3-5 years leadership experience in operations based environment
  • Background in fashion, ethical or slow fashion is a bonus
  • Strategic problem solver
  • Strong ability to coordinate, delegate, and manage projects
  • Highly motivated entrepreneur who takes calculated risks with a strong sense of initiative
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to think and act positively, proactively and as a collaborative team player
  • Someone who is confident using ecommerce and social media tooling (Shopify, Instagram etc.)
