Who makes Seek Shelter?
All our clothes are designed by owner and operator Alison McLean. Each item is handmade by a small team of hardworking ladies in our small studio in Courtenay, BC.
What fabrics do you use?
We use high quality, eco-friendly European linen that is dyed in the United States. At Shelter we are focused on having very little waste, so the small pieces left after your Shelter items are cut are sewn into tiny baby bonnets for our sister company Rain People.
Can I come in and shop at the studio?
YES! You absolutely can come by to shop & try things on! We ask that you make an appointment with us first by emailing: [email protected] or reaching out over Instagram (@seek.shelter). We ask that when you come to the studio that you wear a mask. We will take contact information for Covid-19 tracing. We ask that you cancel your appointment if you are feeling sick <3
What are your studio hours?
Our studio isn't 100% a store front. We are typically here Monday - Friday during school hours. We ask that if you want to come by that you make an appointment! That way we don't miss you.
How do I find out about new releases?
We do our best to send out a newsletter before every new release! You can sign up for our newsletter on the home page of our website. We also post on our Instagram feed regularly with launch information and new fun stuff thats happening! You can turn on your notifications for @seek.shelter on Instagram so you don't miss out!
Do you have summer stock during winter?
We often have summer stock kicking around the studio! So if you are looking for some shorts or tanks for a trip this winter send us an E-mail at [email protected] OR send us a DM on Instagram (@seek.shelter)
Linen pants VS. Cotton/Linen pants
Unfortunately it is not uncommon for linen to become threadbare with lots of love and wear. Linen is made from flax, so it is a very soft and buttery fabric that can lose strength in "high friction" areas (aka: where our thighs meet). We offer a cotton/linen blend fabric to combat this issue. We have found that it is a strong and beautiful alternative to 100% linen pants. The cotton blend starts out more stiff but with wear and washing the linen aspect comes out so beautifully. If you plan on living in your linen pants, it might be worth it to consider this as a nice alternative.
NOTE: Linen pants are not meant to be worn fitted. If you find yourself in between sizes, we recommend sizing up!
How do I care for my Shelter piece?
Machine wash on cold, hang drying is best. There will be some stretch in the linen, and will shape back after its dried.
****Linen is a soft fabric and will wear down in areas of high friction. This is the case with our linen pants where the thighs might rub. We suggest wearing these pants loose to cut down on the wearing, but we are not responsible for crotches that wear out, we apologize for this but it is the reality of wearing linen. We suggest taking pants to a tailor to patch this area before a hole forms.
What is the currency and taxes?
All prices are listed in CAD. Taxes are added at checkout.
Can I return, exchange or cancel my Seek Shelter?
Shelter is a small made to order clothing line, although we do have some stock, most pieces will pieces will be made once the order is placed. If you are unsure of how an item will fit please reference our size guide. If you are still unsure just send us an email with your measurements and we can suggest what size is best.
If for any reason an item doesn't work for you we can totally do an exchange. The mailing costs must be covered by you then we can do a straight exchange for another item in the shop or a store credit. The item must be unworn with tags on.
The mailing cost must be covered by you and once the item(s) are returned we will make you a store credit for the amount of the order.
If there is an error or fault in the item please send us an email explaining the issue with photos and we can make a plan from there.

What size should I get?
We love baggy and oversized clothing, for a more tailored look with our tops, size down. We recommend that if you are in between sizes in pants, to size up. Please note that each style may vary slightly in sizing due to the cut, and these have been noted on the individual item.
NOTE: We work diligently to represent all body types in our clothing on our "Try-On" highlight on Instagram! If you are having a tough time deciding on a size or style, the "Try-On" highlight is an excellent tool to see other people in the clothing that have similar measurements. If you don't see your body type being represented, let us know & we will do our best to represent you!
